GrameenPhone Unlimited internet is no longer unlimited

In a recent update to GrameenPhone's official website, the company has stated that it has added Fair Usage Policy to company's P2 (unlimited data plan) internet subscribers. Under this policy, users will be monitored of how much data they are downloading. The company statement said that heavy downloading such as peer-to-peer (torrent), which is mostly used to download cracked software and high resolution movies, hampers other user experiences and as a result slows down the internet speed of the entire area. Therefore, the fair usage policy has been applied under which subscribers are disallowed to download large files from torrents or other sources.

The Fair Usage Policy also states that if a user exceeds 5 GB of data transfer on any given month, his download speed will be reduced until the expiration date. However, normal data transfer speed will be restored on upon the following renewal date.

This simply means although GrameenPhone states that its P2 package is unlimited, subscribers are indirectly forced not to download more than 5GB per month.

Xplore is now one connection!

The excitement never ends with a Grameenphone postpaid connection! This Independence Day, xplore postpaid subscribes will discover a whole new range of attractive offers, that begins with the unification of the two separate packages - xplore package 1 and xplore package 2.

With this merger, effective from March 25, 2008, the single package “xplore” gets even better. To begin with, the start-up price for xplore is now just BDT 800, replacing the two different start-up prices of BDT 800 and BDT 1700.

The Monthly Commitment Fee of BDT 1000 will no longer be applicable for the “xplore” package, as the Monthly Line Rent is fixed at BDT 100 (excluding VAT). This fee too will be waived if the subscribers’ monthly airtime usage exceeds BDT 1000.

A 75% discount on the existing F&F rates is being offered so that subscribers can stay in constant touch with their loved ones. The new F&F rate for xplore postpaid subscribers is 25 paisa/min to 3 F&F numbers, 24 hours a day. Moreover, xplore subscribers can now change their F&F numbers every 30 days, instead of the existing 60 days.

Regular tariff and SMS rates have been slashed down as well. xplore subscribers can now enjoy a flat tariff of BDT 1.30/min for calls to any operator 24 hours a day. SMS to F&F numbers is charged at BDT 0.50/sms, while SMS to any other number, including other GP numbers, is BDT 1/sms.

Xplore subscribers will receive a 30-second pulse for the 1st minute and 15-second pulse for each subsequent minute after that.

All new xplore subscribers will now get EDGE P3 (12am-8am) and MCA (Missed Call Alert) subscription free for the fist 3 months, along with 100 SMS free of charge over the same period.

These offers are valid until further notice.

Get registered to get bonus

After Banglalink's offer, GrameenPhone offered the same service to their subscribers. Now, each users (GP) who re-registers his/her connection before May 31, will get 100BDT bonus talk time on his/her connection. And if anybody reffers Five GP users to re-register their connection, the refferer will get more 50BDT bonus talk time on his/her GrameenPhone connection.

GrameenPhone-Nokia campaign

From May 7, 2008, Grameenphone has offered another handset+connection package after closing samsung handset campaign. This time GP is offering a Nokia 1200 handset including GP smile [Prepaid or Postpaid] or Djuice sim card. Here's the package details.

The Nokia with GrameenPhone:
2350.0 BDT is fixed price for Nokia 1200 handset. Plus, if subscriber wishes to purchase a smile Mobile to Mobile connection or Djuice, 150.0 BDT will be added with the total price. [Your new sim card is inclusive of 50 BDT welcome talktime]
In this case, the package price shall be 2500 BDT.

If subscribers wish to buy a PSTN [ISD] simcard, then the cost will be 2650 BDT [PSTN sim price is 300].

More additional advantages under this package:
A subscriber who purchases a handset along with a SIM card, will get the following features too.

>> Additional 100 BDT [And the SIM card contains 50 BDT more]. So total 150 BDT free talk time.
>> BDT 100 free talktime if the SIM remains bundled with the handset for the initial 90 days.
>> Another BDT 50 free talktime if the SIM remains bundled with the handset for the subsequent 30 days.
>> 3 Welcome Tunes free till July 15, 2008.
>> Subscription fee for Welcome Tunes will be waived till August 31, 2008.

Note:
Each installment of free talktime will have 30 days validity. The free talktime is not applicable for 25 paisa F&F rates and for 25 paisa On-net calls during Off-peak (12am - 8am) and djuice community calls at 75 paisa/min.

Existing GP subscribers can buy the handset only from the package at BDT 2350, but will not be entitled for the free airtime and VAS.

Reregister your connection before May 30

As per government directive, all mobile phone owners have to reregister thier Sim card before May 30. This time will probably not be extended. So all (not only subscribers who have bought their connection before 26 February, but also all sim owners) subscribers should pay attention to reregister their existing SIM cards befoer May 30 to continue using mobile phone.

Best call rate ever from GrameenPhone

Most recently, country's largest mobile operator GrameenPhone has produced new prepaid tariff plan. Here's the tariff according to GrameenPhone's official website.

For smile

* smile will enjoy Tk.1.50/min tariff while calling any GP numbers in all hours other than night-time
* smile will enjoy Tk.0.25/min during 12-8 am for GP-GP calls
* smile off-net tariff (to other networks) will be Tk.2/min during 12-8 am
* smile will enjoy Tk.0.25/min on 3 F&F numbers 24 hours a day
* SMS tariff (to any mobile) will be Tk.1/sms

For djuice

* djuice will enjoy Tk.0.25/min during 12am to 8 am for calls to any GP/djuice number
* djuice tariff for calling other networks will be Tk.2 /min during 12am to 8 am
* djuice will enjoy Tk.0.25/min on 2 F&F numbers 24 hours a day
* djuice SMS tariff will be Tk.0.75/sms to any mobile.
